The Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond

On my trip to Scotland last month, we stayed a couple of days on the incredibly romantic and beautiful Loch Lomond. Right away, we got to do a wee cruise on the loch, which is the largest body of fresh water in Great Britain.

In the trees is the Auchendennan House, built in 1866.  It stands on the site of King Robert the Bruce’s hunting lodge.

 

 

 

 

Inchmurrin, the largest of 24 islands in Loch Lomond. It is 1 mile by 1.5 miles in size, privately owned, and houses Scotland’s oldest official naturist club. That’s not birdwatchers, in case you were wondering.  Other islands on the loch were home to illegal stills during the Napoleonic wars, when imported wine was hard to get.  Landowners ignored the operations, since the smuggling provided their tenants with income.
