On my trip to Scotland last month, we stayed a couple of days on the incredibly romantic and beautiful Loch Lomond. Right away, we got to do a wee cruise on the loch, which is the largest body of fresh water in Great Britain.
This is looking down the loch toward Ben Lomond.
In the trees is the Auchendennan House, built in 1866. It stands on the site of King Robert the Bruce’s hunting lodge.
Inchmurrin, the largest of 24 islands in Loch Lomond. It is 1 mile by 1.5 miles in size, privately owned, and houses Scotland’s oldest official naturist club. That’s not birdwatchers, in case you were wondering. Other islands on the loch were home to illegal stills during the Napoleonic wars, when imported wine was hard to get. Landowners ignored the operations, since the smuggling provided their tenants with income.
Part of the marina where the cruise originated.
My favorite view, though I caught a bit of afternoon haze. I think I could get lost in those hills. How about you?
I’ll post more pictures from my trip now and again, so check back often!
Wonderful photos, Willa!!
*happy sigh* What lovely pictures! Yes, I want to get lost in those hills!
I have such a strong feeling of ‘longing’ when seeing those gorgeous mountains and valleys of Scotland. My fervent wish is one day to visit and ‘soak’ up all that quiet beauty . . .
