Today I went to the San Antonio Highland Games!
I hung out with a distant relative at the Clan Blair tent, tested the heft of a broadsword and a claymore, watched a sword fight and a Highland dance competition, and learned about different types of chain mail.
And of course, there was caber tossing, hammer throwing and something else involving throwing a block over a high bar with a pitchfork.
The weather was perfect.
Oh, and did I mention that there were lots of men in kilts?
We have very little Scottish ancestry, but it would be great fun to latch onto whatever small part we have and get involved in some of these sorts of activities. At the very least I could get out to see the men in kilts 😉

How fun! And cute poster – Plaid to the Bone. LOL!
I took Highland Dancing in 4th and 5th grade (or maybe 5th and 6th …). Sadly, all I remember is the Fling and the Sword Dance, but I’m sure a bit more would come back if I attended a Highland Games. I loved all the jumping!
