I’m in the Blogging from A to Z Challenge for the month of April. I need your help! To meet this challenge, I’ll be doing one post a day, working through the alphabet.
Your job is to comment and keep me motivated! Let me know you’re out there and following along. Can she make it? Will she? Of course she will! With you as my cheering section, I won’t be stumped by J or Q or even X.
So without further ado, here is today’s post.
C is for claymore. Or, Gaelic claidheamh mòr “great sword”, if you prefer, used in Scotland from the Middle Ages forward. It’s still in ceremonial use today. Length and weight varied, probably by the size of the person wielding the sword, but claymores are said to have been 50 inches or more in length and weigh more than 5 pounds. Because of that, it was most often used two-handed. There’s some debate about whether they were used on horseback, but several sources maintain that they were.
You’ll find claymores in use in my Highland Talents series. Highland Healer is out now and Highland Seer will be out later this year, both from The Wild Rose Press, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, iBooks and other retailers.

Somehow I thought they would have weighed more for their length. Interesting info.
