Visitors to Scotland have a saying: “A B C.” It stands for “another bloomin’ castle” or “another bloody castle”, depending on your preference, as in “here we are, visiting another…”. You get the idea. I’m sure the same holds true for the rest of Great Britain, France, and many other places. Nonetheless, those castles are fascinating places to visit and included on tours for many reasons. They’re picturesque, they are remnants of a past about which we’ve forgotten much. They’re often architectural marvels. And they’re romantic.
On my recent trip to Scotland, I did the ABC tour, which also included some gorgeous stately homes, as well. Take a look!
Cameron House on the shores of Loch Lomond
Stirling Castle
Cawdor Castle and lovely gardens
Culloden House and incredible walled garden
Blair Castle and not a Blair in sight (save me) – it’s the seat of the Murrays
Holyroodhouse Palace Royal Residence and ruined Abbey
Edinburgh Castle
St. Andrews ruined castle by the sea
Now that you’ve seen these, where would you like to go on your own ABC tour?
BEAUTIFUL THANKS!
Eilean Donan, Dunvegan, Dunnottar and so many others – wishful thinking!
I agree! On my next trip, I plan to get to the west coast and find some of these.
Dunottar is amazing.
Blair Athol is one of my favorites, been there several times. Love Eilean Donan too. Go there with the McRaes when they have their Gatherings, July ’15 will be next time; and then there is Glamis.
